Vitomax HS-EH, high supply reliability thanks to the use of electric flange heaters
The new Viessmann Vitomax HS-EH hybrid boiler combines a proven fire-tube boiler with an additional electric flange heater.
Generating electric steam with this hybrid boiler offers numerous advantages. The focus is on clean, energy-efficient power supply. Equally important is high operational reliability and availability. Uninterrupted operation is guaranteed. We offer components designed to work together, providing cost-effective and future-proof system solutions for industrial applications.
What are the characteristics of the Vitomax HS-EH hybrid boiler?
These hybrid boilers use excess electricity to generate steam, thereby reducing the use of traditional fuels. This ensures not only increased climate safety but also operational reliability and cost savings.
The Viessmann Vitomax HS-EH hybrid boiler has a higher efficiency than similar models that use only fossil fuels. This allows for savings on fossil fuels, reducing overall operating costs and conserving valuable, limited resources. Operating costs are reduced primarily because the hybrid boiler uses inexpensive electricity. This can be nighttime electricity or excess electricity generated by the boiler itself. The use of electricity to generate steam also reduces carbon oxide and nitrogen oxide (COx and NOx) emissions in flue gases. This, in turn, means the company has to pay lower emissions taxes. Another advantage of using electricity is the high reliability of the power supply. If fossil fuels fail, the hybrid boiler can compensate proportionally. Thus, interruptions in industrial processes can be minimized.
The startup process can be optimized by using electrical energy. This prevents the flue gas temperature from dropping below the dew point. Once operating, the boiler switches to either the primary fuel or the secondary fuel. This means that fuels with a low flue gas dew point or whose condensate components would be harmful can also be used. Like all Viessmann fire-tube boilers, the Vitomax HS-EH hybrid boilers are H2- ready and allow proportional use of hydrogen.
Furthermore, the use of hybrid boilers allows for peak load balancing. The normal load range also increases, meaning that a better supply can be ensured during partial load reductions.
Finally, electric heat storage offers several advantages during use. It not only provides rapid heat generation but also eliminates unnecessary burner cycles. This, in turn, reduces wear and tear, thereby saving costs.
Electricity consumption in a hybrid boiler
To ensure efficient energy use, the Vitomax HS-EH hybrid boiler is equipped with up to two heating cartridges. These “flanged heaters” are connected to the boiler via a connector. They are highly resistant to corrosion and mechanical stress. Depending on the model, the heating cartridges can be inserted up to 4.5 meters.
Significance for the energy transition
By choosing a Viessmann hybrid boiler, you’ll be contributing to the energy transition. This system utilizes the “electricity to heat” principle, using electricity to generate steam. This allows surplus electricity generated internally or peaks in grid power to be used in an environmentally and economically efficient manner. This reduces the use of fossil fuels. Wind and solar power are emissions-free. A hybrid boiler thus allows you to adopt a more environmentally friendly and sustainable approach. It’s also another step toward keeping global warming within the 1.5 degrees Celsius limit set by the Paris Agreement.
