Particularly economical production of electricity and heat using cogeneration units
What could be more economical than using primary energy to simultaneously produce two types of secondary energy? This is possible with cogeneration, where combined heat and power plants (CHPs) simultaneously generate electricity and heat. They are the ideal way to meet the demands of the energy transition. They are economical, efficient, and decentralized. Compared to separate electricity and heat production, they also have significantly higher efficiency.
Vitobloc 300 NG 15/NG 20: Economy and Efficiency
The new compact cogeneration units Vitobloc 300 NG 15 and NG 20 (NG = natural gas) from Viessmann differ in their electrical and thermal output (15 kWel/38.3 kWh; 20 kWel/46.5 kWh).
Vitobloc 300 – compact, quiet and supplied ready for connection
The Vitobloc 300 NG 15 and NG 20 are compact, ready-to-connect units with water-cooled synchronous generators for three-phase power generation and hot water heating. Thanks to their low operating noise (less than 54 dB(A)) and small footprint, they are recommended for a wide range of applications, including new construction and modernization projects. Certified cogeneration units are equipped with integrated grid and system protection as standard and are designed for grid replacement operation.
Meets the connection requirements of energy supplying organizations
The units meet the strict current and future technical connection requirements (TAB) of German power supply companies. Thanks to the intelligent electronic platform, the power phase (cos phi) can be shifted using software, eliminating the need for additional hardware modifications.
Equipment for the future
Technology that enables the use of natural gas and hydrogen mixtures for heating buildings is already available and marketed in thousands of installations. Vitobloc 300 NG 15/NG 20 cogeneration units can already operate on 20% hydrogen. Choosing this advanced cogeneration unit is an excellent way to prepare for the future.
Features of the Vitobloc 300
Maintenance is only required after every 8,000 hours of operation. This means that one annual service is usually sufficient.
The pipelines are pre-assembled at the factory and insulated if necessary. They connect the most important components of the cogeneration unit (the coolant heat exchanger, the exhaust gas heat exchanger, and the engine). For vibration isolation, all pipe connections are equipped with metal expansion joints or flexible hose connections and are flanged or threaded with a flat gasket. To protect against corrosion, the engine is filled at the factory with a water-glycol mixture circulated by an electric coolant pump.
Integrated condensation technology delivers overall efficiency of up to 107 percent. Low exhaust temperatures allow the use of an inexpensive plastic exhaust system. This simplifies hydraulic connections and eliminates the need for a return flow temperature booster.
New electronic platform with innovative features
An electronic platform with the ViNCI module developed by Viessmann is used to control the cogeneration unit. The core element of the control unit is a Linux-based industrial computer. This enables connection to innovative remote services and interfaces for communication in multi-mode systems and building management systems (BMS). Cloud-based data management meets the highest security standards. Naturally, the system enables remote web visualization and operation on professional backend solutions.
- Monitoring and visualization using a web-based application
- Managing and monitoring parallel network mode and island mode
- Control and monitoring of operation in heat or energy saving mode
- Remote access (remote configuration of parameters and confirmation of events)
- Flexible configuration of parameters according to the requirements of a specific system
- Built-in load control, e.g. for self-sufficiency
- Integrated, flexible, extensible network code prescriptions
- Increased number of sensors, such as heating water pressure, generator temperature, electronic high-limit exhaust gas safety shut-off, etc.
- Fast data recording and storage in milliseconds
- Built-in color touch screen
- Easy expansion with decentralized electronic modules
- 1 x LAN for Internet connection (TC-LAN)
- 1 x external CAN for further decentralized electronic modules (e.g. buffer control)
- 1 x LAN for Modbus TCP (e.g. for BMS)
- 1 x RS232 for Modbus RTU (e.g. for BMS)
- 1 x RS485 for Modbus RTU (e.g. for BMS)
- 1 x USB for updating and exporting parameters
Remote access via professional interfaces
The Vitobloc electronic platform allows monitoring of cogeneration units from anywhere. While the unit is running, useful insights can be gained into potential optimization measures, helping to improve efficiency.
The available data enables better planning of maintenance work and faster response to CHP unit service requests. Remote access eliminates the need for on-site maintenance, resulting in cost savings and increased availability and reliability of the CHP unit.
